Vintage Spring ,Summer Dreams and TWO Freebies!

With our home school year winding to a close you can tell I've got Summer on my mind, and I'm eagerly planning all the fun (and relaxation) we'll be having! LOL :) Some of you also know we've been building our home... (it's been a 10 year wait for this dream, and we're so excited that we'll be able to finally move in this weekend!)  Here's a peek at the outside. There's still a bit of grading to do on the surrounding landscape, it's a little rough yet and you can see a few of our fruit trees (staked on the right) here as well. It seems miraculous to me to think we're almost in our very first home! Sure looks like a castle to me! :)

Blog Remodel and New Product :)

Hi All! As you know, in the not to distant past we welcomed our third child, Lincoln Jonathan into our family.  Let me introduce you to one of the people he's named after: my older brother Jon. :) In the photograph below he's alongside my sister, Saron ( my daughter Sarenna is named after her and my two other sisters: Susanna &  Sarah)  

So why am I telling you all this? I thought you might like to know a little backstory behind this digital scrapbooking kit " Happy Birthday Man" You see, Since both Saron and Jon had special birthdays this year (30 & 40) I thought it would be nice to do something extra special to celebrate.  This kit is a combination of modern patterns, chrome and silver (which Saron loves) and modern blues with a masculine look for my brother Jon.  This kit was created especially with decorations for their combined birthday party in mind (and I also made baby dedication decorations for both Sarenna and Lincoln with them too ... the dedication the excuse we used to get both of them to attend the party :) Sneaky, huh? They both loved the 20x30 photo collages of pictures I made from snapshots of years gone by. Walmart has a great photo collage service, I'm just picky about arrangement so I made mine in photoshop then uploaded and had them printed at our local walmart.

 So here's a close up of the 'my favorite things' cakes that were a total Pinspired idea from THIS Pin.  I took the easy way out and used a lot of pre made items to help me assemble them quickly though. With 3 kids, Under 6 I make no apologies for that :) lol! Really though, it's super easy and somewhat custom..as long as the flavors work well together.  Basically, each layer is arranged in saran wrap lined round cake pans, unless you baked one of the layers in one.. if so,it's removed wrapped in saran wrap and frozen. When they are all frozen solid, they are unwrapped stacked and iced. I used ganache, icing or caramel sauce where needed to help 'glue' anything together. I haven't made this since but next time I might try seven minute icing, or cool whip since it might break up the sweetness a little.maybe even add in something like a thin layer of nuts or pretzels. Either way, it's clearly not the healthiest thing to be eating..lol  but if you're going for a special occasion celebration.. they make quite an impression celebrating some of that person's favorite things.  So the first one here on the left is a combination of  Jon's favorite desserts & treats: swiss cake rolls,  caramel, banana cake , smore's, cheesecake, peanut butter cup, chocolate chip cookies and brownie.  Saron's favorite desserts (on the right) layers top to bottom include: almond joy, chocolate covered strawberry, smore's, cheesecake, brownie,reese's pb cup, chocolate chip cookie.
